Focusing on know-how

PC-Soft creates innovations with high functionality. Global market trends and the current economic situation required the use of profitable asset management as a long-term competitive advantage. The Senftenberg software company PC-Soft GmbH has recognised this trend and is expanding its business and product portfolio. Beginning of 2009, PC-Soft GmbH bundled its many years of expertise in industries into a new business unit, called zedas®asset Industry, managed by Michael Kaiser.

(firmenpresse) - PC-Soft is a software and consulting company. What does software and consulting mean in this context? What is PC-Soft as a company, and what is the company structure?

Michael Kaiser:
PC-Soft GmbH is a mid-range company employing a staff of more than 55 at its Senftenberg facility. Founded in 1990, PC-Soft can now look back on 20 years as a company. During this time, we’ve established ourselves worldwide as experts in the areas of software development, system integration, consulting and professional service. We are specialised for years in innovative software solutions for technical plant management and logistics. In addition to introducing and implementing software, PC-Soft provides comprehensive services for all of its products and offers modern centralised service concepts for manufacturers, operators and suppliers of services.

Having its company headquarter in Senftenberg, a small town in Brandenburg, implies that PC-Soft has its roots there. But why Senftenberg? Where does this connection with the region come from?

Michael Kaiser:
PC-Soft’s roots are based on mining and transportation - thus with today’s Vattenfall Europe Mining AG here locally. Our expert knowledge is based on many years of collaboration. With our costumers and partners we realised that it's important for them that our know-how in consulting, service and support is centralized at one location from where it is available to everybody. Modern IT communication channels are used to serve all information and know how worldwide - anytime, anywhere. Our Senftenberg location is therefore a result of our history. Our connection with the region of South Brandenburg is reflected in the relationship of our staff to the company. The reputation of PC-Soft as an innovative and attractive employer is a goal for us that is known well beyond the region of South Brandenburg/Saxony.

Partners? Which business do you want to extend by partners? What are the reasons behind this?

Michael Kaiser:
In the case of our business activities within the new zedas®asset business unit (BU), we've made it our goal to intensively extend our partner network as well as concentrating strongly on our own core business in the areas of minerals, metal and mining (MMM), oil, gas and chemicals (OGC), and manufacturing, production and environmental technology (MPE). We principally differentiate between business network partners – whose own consulting tasks we support with our expert knowledge – and system integration partners who develop independent solutions for their customers based our software products. Our partner programme is offering qualification trainings for system integration (SI) partner, also contains service packages such as professional service, helpdesk and sales support. This integrates the SI partners into our network in such a way that they can develop their own markets on the basis of the zedas®asset product. In 2009, we intend to concentrate on the German, Austrian and Swiss (D/A/CH) markets, but equally, we will build up project-related partnerships with SI-Partners in eastern Europe. Ultimately, we would like to extend our international business in the Middle East, Asia, Australia and America within the next two years. Since we've been actively present for a long time in the MMM market in South America it's important that we be present in the future in MMM markets in North America, South Africa and Australia. In the OGC area, we’re focusing on the markets in North America, the Middle East and, last but not least, Russia.

Your visions for the BU and the product are already highly developed. To give us a comprehensive overview of the portfolio, please describe which products and services you offer here.

Michael Kaiser:
Our standard software product for technical asset management and maintenance is zedas®asset, for logistics management and integrated rail cargo management it’s zedas®cargo and for production control of industrial tyre retreading this is fa/r. These unite our technical, process-specific and sector-oriented knowledge into a comprehensive range of services that offer our customers innovative solutions while protecting their investment. Our systems are supplemented with extended product applications. For example, based on the zedas®asset product, we have developed various solutions such as zedas®Service, zedas® LCC/RAMS and zedas®mobile, which we use – modified to meet customer requirements – on various target markets. With the vision of simple, fast and optimised technical asset management, we‘ve brought together our own knowhow and the experience of our customers into solution concepts, e.g. zedas®Service or zedas® LCC. We developed zedas® Service, used for optimisation of production processes and the maintenance of decentralised plant and service teams, together with the customer SIEMAG M-TEC². Together with Vossloh Locomotives we developed the operator concept zedas® LCC. It’s designed to LCC/RAMS data that has been agreed upon within the framework of operator or leasing contracts for technical equipment. The service and operator concepts based on zedas®asset can be expand by modular system extensions. New add-on modules such as zedas®asset cockpit as a maintenance & operation tool, as well as zedas®asset LCC calculator (KPI-calculator), zedas®asset organizer (resource planning) and zedas®asset mobile, support our customers in operating and maintaining plant and processes in optimised way.

You’ve already mentioned the functionality and the usage possibilities. How will your current software solutions bring benefits for tomorrow?

Michael Kaiser:
In the last 20 years we've built up numerous references in technical railway management and in railway logistics. We've already demonstrated our experience in industry area to many of our customers around the world. With this new focus of the zedas®asset Industry BU, we at PC-Soft intend to bundle our expert knowledge compact and better target to the demands the areas of minerals, metal and mining (MMM), oil, gas and chemicals (OGC), and manufacturing, production and environmental technology (MPE). The focus of our business is in technical asset management and condition monitoring. We've been concentrating on this area for years. Our products and services are designed to use operation in a wide variety of appear to linked to the process as well as linked to ERP-host. In our opinion ERP should take care for any financial information. However, that the process view of technical asset information is very multifaceted and should be served in details for production and maintenance in a technicallyoriented asset management tool such as zedas®asset. A technical asset is today a complex interoperation of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical equipment, whose lifetime determined by load time intervals. We offer our customers the basis for a maintenance concept adapted to each individual situation – cost-optimised and with an optimum of plant availability. Based on our experience and many years of collaboration with our customer and partner Vattenfall Europe Mining AG, we developed and continually extended the product zedas®asset.

The services offered by your BUe, and the product functionality as well, are very specific. To what extent do you communicate this worldwide? How, and of course where, does PC-Soft approach the public?

Michael Kaiser:
Yes, our software isn't a pure consumer item and therefore it's hard to make it known through classic advertising messages. Due to their specific usage and functionality possibilities, our software products can be communicated to the outside world with selected marketing and PR activities. In order to be present on the appropriate targeted markets, we will attend various tradeshows this year, including, with our own booth, at Hanover Show, the trade gas convention GAT in Leipzig, the SPS/IPC/DRIVES in Nuremberg and the Z & intec supplier trade show in Leipzig. We also plan to be present at international tradeshows in Russia and Chile with long-term key customers. In addition, we'll organise roadshows within the D/A/CH market together with our partners, in order to demonstrate our software ”life on stage” to customers. Moreover, PC-Soft will offer its workshops as part of a trade congress in the autumn of 2009 – further subjects from the areas of MMM, OGC and MPE will be discussed and presented.

You'll be presenting new developments and innovations, is that correct? How will you realise this?

Michael Kaiser:
Of course. New BU – new ways – new product functionality – new services. To meet the high standards we've set for ourselves, the zedas®asset Industry BU will join news ways in marketing and PR. As well as online portals and trade journals, we’ll be increasingly using web-seminars to inform our costumers on latest news. We’re positioned in a market that requires a high degree of customer orientation, a network of long-term business relationships, market experience advantages and well known structures. Last but not least qualified staff, innovation and knowledge management are themes, we are focused on. It is our philosophy to synchronise activities of marketing, sales and consulting in order to present our products more intensively within the scope of solutions, and while doing so, present our experience as unique selling point. This is why we intend to increase our presence and activities on the market – and we’re already looking forward to the dialogue and the new challenges that we'll be happy to take on together with our customers and partners. In short: With the zedas®asset Industry BU, “PC-Soft kick down and speed up – be part of it”!

An excellent final sentence that clearly shows the PC-Soft spirit – with these words I should like to conclude the interview and thank you for this interesting discussion.

Michael Kaiser:
