A lot of new things in payment of tax refunds
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Tax refunds will be paid into bank accounts on Thursday, 5 December. The related
money transactions will be executed according to the SEPA standards for the
first time, which is why the amounts will not be in bank accounts immediately
after the midnight as in prior years.
What is also new is that this will be the first time that Pohjola Bank acts as
the intermediary of tax refunds which are paid on a centralised basis through a
single bank to other banks.
Around 3.3 million people will receive tax refunds totalling some 2.3 billion
euros.
Tax refunds were previously entered in bank accounts immediately after the
midnight but now within the SEPA environment they will be entered during that
day as any other payments.
Payees who have not informed the Finnish Tax Administration of their account
numbers will receive their refunds in the form of money orders that will be sent
a total of around 50,000 payees. Customers of all banks may cash in their
refunds at any OP-Pohjola Group member cooperative bank branch from 12-14
December.
Following a competitive tendering procedure, Pohjola won a seven-year contract
in autumn 2011 to act as the intermediary of government payments. This
cooperation will begin on1 December.
