Boundary Expands Executive Team to Accelerate Development of Next-Generation Cloud Application Monitoring System

Former Zenoss and IBM Exec Rick Houlihan Brings 20 Years' IT Management Experience

(firmenpresse) - SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 12/04/12 -- has hired Rick Houlihan to lead its engineering team, which earlier this year launched the industry's first real-time cloud application monitoring system. All product development, support and operations personnel will report to Houlihan, who has over 20 years' experience in IT management, most recently at Zenoss. As Vice President of Engineering at Boundary, Houlihan will continue the organization's focus on building solutions that help companies see and respond to cloud application and hybrid IT performance issues before they impact customers.

"This is a fantastic opportunity," said Houlihan. "Boundary technology is truly revolutionary, and it could not be more needed in the market today. Cloud consumers have come to expect that applications deployed in the cloud will work no matter what. The reality is these systems are very fragile, and keeping them running requires a highly dynamic monitoring solution for real-time state analysis of application layer dependencies. Boundary has that, and we're going to make it even better."

Unlike traditional IT monitoring tools that assume a static infrastructure, Boundary was designed to monitor application environments that change constantly. Since launching its cloud application monitoring system in the spring, Boundary has been deployed by hundreds of companies, including CMP.LY, FullContact, GitHub, Minefold, Okta, Qbranch and Urban Airship. Boundary is monitoring over 3 terabytes of data daily, across public and private clouds, fixed networks, data centers, highly agile application development environments, SQL or NoSQL clusters, and Big Data application stacks.

"Rick is a terrific addition to our management team," said Gary Read, CEO at Boundary. "He brings hands-on experience in IT and application performance management, not to mention tremendous leadership skills. We have created a very powerful platform that is having a meaningful and measurable impact on customers every day, and we are confident that Rick is the right guy to take our people and products to the next level."

Houlihan joins Boundary from Zenoss, where for two years he was vice president of Engineering driving the delivery of IT Service Management and Service Assurance solutions for virtualized datacenters. Prior to Zenoss, Houlihan was a software architect at IBM, where he led the implementation of the Meiosys virtual process management software with IBM Systems Director and the implementation of a massively scalable endpoint simulation platform capable of accurately emulating a wide variety of device types, agent protocols, and server side workflows. The Meiosys technology was the foundation of the AIX WPAR Manager, and the simulation platform drove over $10M in cost-efficiency and savings for IBM in its first 12 months of deployment. Houlihan has also held executive management positions at Meiosys and Ejasent.

provides a new kind of application monitoring for new IT architectures: one-second application visualization, cloud and hybrid IT compatible, and only a few minutes from setup to results. Boundary is a privately held company based in San Francisco, California, with venture funding from Lightspeed Venture Partners and Scale Venture Partners.
