Wenden, May 20, 2010 - elexis AG, which is listed on the SDAX of the
Frankfurt Stock Exchange, will announce in its annual general meeting today
that its subsidiary EMG Automation GmbH will acquire a majority
shareholding (51 percent) in Protagon Process Technologies GmbH in the next
few days. The commercial agreement has already been made. With the
investment the elexis Group is expanding its existing technology portfolio
in the area of quality assurance systems for the paper, plastics and metal
industries.
The international technology company is adding with its investment in
Protagon Process Technologies GmbH to its technological expertise
specifically in the area of 'online measurement of flat materials' with the
product focus on measuring and testing. The measuring and sensor
technology in Protagon Process Technologies' product range, which is used
for example to measure thickness, basis weight, surface condition, moisture
and general optical features, is an important addition to the technological
components of process and quality control used by elexis.
'Protagon is an attractive investment for us. It provides elexis with
additional growth opportunities with innovative product ideas and new
techniques in the steel industry. Quality assurance systems will also be
added to our existing technology portfolio specifically in the area of foil
and packaging in the Print business unit. Protagon's products can be
marketed in a targeted manner by our international sales and service
organisation,' explains Siegfried Koepp, Chairman of the Management Board
of elexis AG.
Protagon GmbH is an engineering company and has 15 employees. As of 30
September 2009 Protagon achieved sales of around EUR 2.0 million and even
in the crisis year it produced a positive operating result (EBT 15
percent).
With the acquisition the elexis Group confirms that it is continuing its
innovation offensive to strengthen the Group's earnings power and extend
its international technology leadership. In view of the potential of the
growth markets of 'steel and the packaging industry', the majority
shareholding in Protagon GmbH strengthens the Group for the
future.
