Solutionary Survey Reveals That Threat Intelligence Reports Are Used to Shape Security Strategies and to Justify Security Resource and Budget Requests
Security Self-Assessments That Show Business Stakeholders Their Organizations' Risk Status Could Help Drive Even More Budget and Resources Into Security Programs
(firmenpresse) - OMAHA, NE -- (Marketwire) -- 12/12/12 -- , the leading pure-play managed security services provider (MSSP), today announced survey results revealing that a significant number of organizations are finding value in threat intelligence reports. Eighty-three percent of respondents said they are using reports to help shape security strategy in their organizations, and 78 percent of respondents within those organizations said they use reports to justify security resource and budget requests to reduce risks. When respondents were asked what is the single most important topic that should be included in threat reports that could help you to obtain more security resources and budget, the most frequently chosen option was "Self assessment that allows me to show business stakeholders our risk status" (31 percent).
"This survey is encouraging; it shows that businesses of all types and sizes are using solid research and threat intelligence to strengthen defenses and reduce risk," said Rob Kraus, Solutionary Security Engineering Research Team (SERT) director. "It also shows that security providers can do more than just provide intelligence about the latest attacks and malware in the wild. We can make an impact that gets business decision makers to understand just how important security is and to commit to supporting it."
When respondents who use threat reports to shape security strategy were asked to choose which topics current threat reports were weak on, and which if increased, could help them to improve security and reduce risk, they most frequently selected "Actionable Threat Intelligence with Predictive Defense Recommendations" (22 percent).
When respondents who use threat reports to justify security budget and resource requests were asked which section of current reports are the most useful in influencing decision makers to approve security budget requests, they most frequently selected "Executive Summaries" (20 percent).
Eighty-seven percent of respondents who do not use threat reports to shape security strategies said they would be inclined to if the reports provided direction on how to use the information to improve their chances of securing more security resources and budget.
The survey polled 178 respondents from U.S.-based organizations in multiple industries, including Financial Services, Healthcare, High Tech and Manufacturing. Forty-one percent of respondents worked in organizations ranging in size from 2,500 to more than 10,000 employees and came from a wide range of staff levels, including C-level executives, vice presidents, directors, managers and administrators. The survey was conducted in October, during Cyber Security Awareness Month. To access the current Solutionary SERT Q3 Threat Report, visit: .
