Christmas Baking Competition With Cosmos Announced

(firmenpresse) - LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 12/20/12 -- Thousands of Brits flock to Spain every Christmas to soak up the sun and enjoy some much-needed respite from the chilly UK temperatures. But opting for a Christmas of sun, sea and sangria doesn't have to mean forgoing traditional Christmas cheer. Spain's celebrations and traditional ways of acknowledging the holiday are just as magical and as exciting as those in the UK.

Cosmos has launched a tasty competition to help introduce a few Spanish Christmas traditions to Brits before they embark on their winter breaks this year. Whilst Christmas cuisine in Spain varies from region to region, there are also a wide variety of cakes and desserts popular across the whole country.

With that in mind, Cosmos has invited five of the UK's top food bloggers to take part in a mouth-watering baking challenge. The bloggers have been asked to create and share their take on a traditional Spanish Christmas dessert, the 'Rosca de Reyes' which has now been published on the for all to comment on and vote.

The Rosca de Reyes (translated as Kings' Ring, or King Cake) is an oval or ring shaped cake topped with fresh, dried or candied seasonal fruit. With its sweet taste and festive colours, Rosca de Reyes is traditionally enjoyed twelve days after Christmas, known as 'Three King's Day'. This day marks the official end of the Christmas season in the Spanish calendar, and is celebrated with present-opening, much like Christmas Day in the UK.

The rules of the competition are simple: whichever baking expert can whip up the best Rosca de Reyes cake and the most votes will receive up to GBP 500 to spend on a holiday with Cosmos.
