Minister Raitt Commends New Collective Agreements Between Canadian Pacific Railway and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 12/20/12 -- Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, congratulated Canadian Pacific Railway and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC), on reaching new collective agreements for the Rail Canada Traffic Controllers and the Running Trades Employees with the assistance of arbitrator Mr. William Kaplan.

"I respect the decision made by Mr. Kaplan and am glad that the disputes between Canadian Pacific Railway and the TCRC have reached a conclusion that will ensure stability for the economy, and Canadian businesses," said Minister Raitt. "I would like to thank the parties for cooperating with Mr. Kaplan and settling their outstanding concerns."

Mr. Kaplan was appointed, as part of the Restoring Rail Service Act, to resolve the parties' outstanding issues through an interest-based binding arbitration process. The TCRC represents approximately 220 rail traffic controllers and 4, 200 locomotive engineers, conductors, trainspersons and yardmen, whose previous collective agreements expired on December 31, 2011.
