Pöyry awarded EUR 1.1 million rail rehabilitation project in Argentina

Pöyry has been awarded a contract by the Argentine Railways Infrastructure
Administration (ADIF) for the executive project approval and inspection of the
tracks total renewal works for the "General Belgrano" cargo railway system. The
work will be carried out in cooperation with the Argentine company IATASA.
Pöyry's share of the assignment is EUR 1.1 million.
The scope of work includes the review and approval of the detail engineering and
the inspection and supervision of the works. The estimated duration of the
service period is approximately 1.5 years.
This gradual rehabilitation of the General Belgrano railway network is part of
the rail system recovery policy promoted by the National Transport Secretary.
The first section of 40.5 km is in the province of Santiago del Estero and the
second one, 38 km, in the province of Chaco. This narrow gauge railway system
reached nearly 10 000 km already in the 1960s, but it needs renewal to meet the
current transportation needs. It is a vital network in linking the central,
western and northern parts of Argentina.
