Heijmans to design rush-hour lanes for Uitgeest - Alkmaar A9 motorway

's-Hertogenbosch - Heijmans has been awarded a contract by the
Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management for the design of two
rush-hour lanes for the A9 motorway. The project involves an approximately 10 km
stretch between the cities of Uitgeest and Alkmaar, including the construction
of emergency lay-bys and the modification of civil works. The work is designated
as Priority Package C and is part of the priority legislation introduced by the
Dutch government to combat traffic congestion by accelerating the construction
of road widening projects.
If everything goes according to plan, Heijmans will also be awarded the contract
for the realization of the road upgrades, upon the completion of the planning
process. The total tendering amount for the engineering and realization phases
is ? 23.9 million.
Heijmans was ultimately awarded the contract on the basis of price and quality.
It obtained the best score in part due to the high rating it received for the
quality aspect. Based on this innovative tendering approach, the
Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management primarily focused on
obtaining a high-quality proposal.
The tendering amount and the qualitative portion were based on an integrated
approach developed by Heijmans Infrastructure Integrated Projects (HIGP) with
contributions from all disciplines within Heijmans Infrastructure. HIGP will
manage the design and execution, thus ensuring an integrated approach.
