Ontario school parents now have a place to plan, communicate and share information as teachers' unions threaten "days of protest" and continued bans on voluntary activities.

Free online network has provided over 5000 Ontario schools with live community web pages where parents can connect with local school administrators and each other safely, easily and privately.

The province announced Thursday it will be imposing contracts on teachers and education workers but Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) president Sam Hammond has warned parents not to expect "business as usual" when kids head back to school on Monday.

According to CBC News, Ken Coran, president of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation doesn't foresee the resumption of voluntary and extracurricular activities as hoped for by Education Minister Laurel Broten.

The continued brangling between teachers' unions and the province have parents and students looking to each other and their school administrators for reassurance and support through the threatened "days of protest" and the continued ban of voluntary activities.

"People are trying to make up for their kids' lost sports and extracurriculars to whatever degree they are able," says Schooltree.org Director Jono Landon, who speaks with parents across Ontario. "They're stepping up to support each other and school programs for the sake of the kids." According to Landon, the educational and social benefits to staying connected with other local school parents have taken on a whole new level of importance during times of crisis and uncertainty.

School parents in Ontario (and across Canada) can find their local school's live community web page by searching by name or region at . Once they've signed up, parents can join their local school page and connect with other school members. "School parents want to connect with each other, for their kids' sakes and their own," Landon says. "We've given them a safe, convenient place to do that."
