Miracle Place Church Focuses on the True Meaning of Christianity
(firmenpresse) - BAKER, LA -- (Marketwire) -- 01/10/13 -- In an published by The Huffington Post, Richard Stearns considers the ways in which the world is leaning toward secularism -- and the manner in which Christians can shift their focus to showcase the values of their religion rather than its symbols. Miracle Place Church, led by Bishop , agrees that the power of the Gospel lies in action.
Stearns explains that, for the first time in American history, Protestants make up less than 50 percent of the country's population. Additionally, American-born Catholics are falling away from the church and the number of individuals who do not claim a religious affiliation has grown. During it all, he asserts, Christians have become frustrated with efforts to remove their symbols from public spaces: "We have fought to place the Ten Commandments in courtrooms and Christmas crèches outside town halls. We have sued over public prayers and crosses in state parks."
But Stearns finds that the true meaning of the religion has been lost amongst these symbols: "While symbols can be important, we have focused perhaps too much on them instead of the underlying reality they reflect. Instead, we need to go back to the basics of living as Disciples of Christ, living missionally for Christ and demonstrating the Gospel in tangible ways within our schools, workplaces, and communities." He goes on to assert that, while he would approve of posting the Ten Commandments on the walls of the courthouse, he believes that "The kind of Christianity the world responds to is the authentic 'love your neighbor' kind."
Sinclair and members of the Miracle Place Church congregation agree. They believe that, through their actions, they can share the love of God and the spirit of Christ more effectively than through symbols. "The message of the Bible is just as culturally relevant today as it was when it was written," asserts a representative from Miracle Place Church. "Ricky Sinclair is communicating a word that is practical and easily understood. If the church is to remain, she must be able to discern the times and adjust to the needs.
