Haslemere, United Kingdom, June 4, 2010 - United Energy Group welcomes the
energy strategy through 2030 that was presented by the Government of the
Republic of Srpska in late May. The strategy white paper lays the
foundation for the development of the domestic energy market for the next
20 years, and defines a number of objectives and measures. 'As early as
2008, the Republic of Srpska committed itself by parliamentary decision to
push ahead with the country's energy policy. This became the basis for
numerous talks with international investors which are now beginning to bear
fruit in the form of a concrete energy policy,' stated Dr. Rolf Haferkamp,
CEO of United Energy Group.
The goal the Republic of Srpska set for itself is not just to provide all
of its residents with proper access to electric power, but to provide a
high-quality power supply. In addition to the use of fossil fuels, the plan
calls for exploitation of the country's hydroelectric potential. This
presupposes the construction of production facilities in an initial stage,
as there have been no investments of this sort for the past 25 years. 'With
its energy strategy, the Republic of Srpska has clearly pledged to mobilise
companies from the most diverse industries and countries for the
construction of energy facilities, thus launching a new, comprehensive
investment cycle. This is where our Southeast Europe strategy and our
commitment in the Republic Srpska come in,' said Haferkamp, specifically
welcoming the fact that, during its press conference on May 25, the
Republic of Srpska did point out the necessity to commence activities in
the near future in order to implement the strategy.
In the weeks to come, the energy strategy of the Republic of Srpska will be
supplemented with comments by its Parliament, enabling the National
Assembly of the Republic of Srpska to ratify the strategy white paper and
the action plan before the summer recess.
