KTG Energie AG firmly targeting the 50 MW mark for clean energy
- Production capacity of 35 MW at the end of 2012
- Profitable growth and positive cash flow
- 40 MW will clearly be exceeded in 2013
Hamburg, 1 February 2013 - KTG Energie AG has set itself a clear target for
2015 - operating biogas plants with a rated electrical output of more than
50 megawatts (MW), enough to supply 500,000 people with clean energy. 'We
are aggressively pursuing this goal. We are actively investing and
exploiting our potentials,' says Dr. Thomas Berger, CEO of KTG Energie AG.
In 2012, additional plants were taken into operation in Baruth,
Wendisch-Priborn, Wiederstedt and Vehlefanz. Many more plants are under
construction or at the planning stage, which means that the company will
clearly exceed the 40 MW mark in 2013. 'We are profitable and generating
positive cash flows already today - and the trend is clearly upward. Our
multi-feedstock plants produce clean energy and, hence, reliable income
around the clock. KTG Energie will therefore continue to increase its
operating profits and cash flows significantly in the coming years,' says
Olaf Schwarz, CFO of KTG Energie AG.
To finance its growth, KTG Energie went public last year, marking the first
IPO of a German company in 2012. As a result, equity capital increased to
over EUR 20 million, which gives the company a solid foundation. This has
prompted Creditreform to award the company an Investment Grade rating. In
addition, the company issued a corporate bond, which primarily serves to
bridge finance the construction and acquisition of biogas plants. Once the
biogas plants are connected to the grid, low-interest long-term project
loans are available. The available funds are then used to bridge finance
new projects.
KTG Energie is not only growing organically but also buying existing biogas
plants. In the past weeks, the company purchased another five sites with a
potential of five megawatts. All sites are developed and approved. Some of
the plants are already under construction, which means that 1.5 MW is
expected to go on line in the first half of 2013. Sales of the biogas
produced by the plants are secured under long-term contracts. As a
subsidiary of KTG Agrar, one of the leading agricultural companies in
Europe, KTG Energie - producer of clean energy - benefits from a unique
integrated feedstock concept. Thanks to this cooperation, the feedstock
supply is guaranteed in the long term, especially through the use of
intercrops. Intercrops such as millet and Sudan grass today already cover
over 60 percent of the company's total requirements. KTG Agrar first grows
the grain required for the production of food. After the summer grain
harvest, the intercrops are sown and harvested for the production of energy
shortly before the first frost. The result is healthy food and clean energy
from the same field in the same year.
Since years, KTG Energie's new plant construction activities have primarily
focused on biomethane production from intercrops and straw, which is an
advanced and forward-looking technology. Biomethane is a 100 percent
substitute for natural gas, which is why the European Union promotes
biomethane as a renewable energy source (RES). The great advantage is that
biomethane can reach every household in Germany via the existing
nation-wide grid, with no need for additional grid expansion.
Says Dr. Thomas Berger: 'A key feature of our established business model is
the fact that it is very well plannable. Both the input side and the output
side are secured in the long term. We have thus laid the foundation for
continued growth in future.'
