Speaking of Style Offers Tips, Advice & Commentary Focused on Its Readers, Not the Runway

"With most fashion sites rehashing the same news, there's a style vacuum out there and we want to fix that," says Matthew Wong, co-founder of Speaking of Style. "The misconception is that style comes from wearing a label. But everyone can put together pieces from their existing wardrobe and create a personal style. And we use the blog to help them do that."

Built on a customized WordPress platform, the new blog features a unique combination of technologies, including post-tag taxonomy, auto-photo gallery creation and dynamic image resizing, to make it simple for non-technical blog authors to add articles and photos in a way that makes it easy for readers to quickly find the information that will help them.

"Our goal was to let the articles and photography be the 'wow factor' by capturing the unique Speaking of Style vibe, without over-designing the site," says Kevin Doherty, nvision's Creative Director for the site's development. "We worked with Matthew and his team and focused on the audience and the goals for the blog. The resulting synergy produced a site that exceeded everyone's expectations."

Response to the new blog has exceeded expectations too. Wong notes that traffic to the site jumped following the launch and has recently been approached by major brands, including Zara, Stolichnaya and Budweiser.

"The new site makes us look professional and credible. We have received really positive feedback and so much more interaction," says Wong, who added "we are fortunate to have such good writers, and we're really proud of our photography. The new site helps all of that stand out in a really positive way."





Looking to the future, Wong sees many opportunities for the new blog to help Speaking of Style evolve and be more relevant to its growing audience. "The platform lets us not only help readers develop their personal style, but they can express their fashion sense and show us what they've discovered by adding their own comments, pictures and videos, and we're really excited about that."
