REPEAT-Media Advisory/Photo Opportunity: Ontario's Leading Physiotherapy Organization to Discuss Its Proposal for Providing Seniors With Much-Needed OHIP-Funded Physiotherapy

ID: 232912

(firmenpresse) - PETERBOROUGH, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/25/13 -- Thousands of ambulatory seniors across Ontario - including hundreds in the Peterborough area - cannot access OHIP-funded physiotherapy, despite the fact that it's a proven and cost-effective way to keep our seniors healthy and out of the hospital.

Ontario's Designated Physiotherapy Clinics want to change that. They currently provide high-quality, low-cost, OHIP-funded physiotherapy to more than 150,000 Ontario seniors, children, social assistance recipients and disabled persons. The Designated Physiotherapy Clinics Association (DPCA) has a plan for providing physiotherapy to all Ontario seniors who need it, in order that they can continue living in their own homes.

The DPCA proposes to partner with Retirement Residences, Long-Term Care (LTC) homes, and seniors' activity centres. These facilities would act as a physiotherapy treatment "hub" for ambulatory seniors.

Please join Tony Melles of the DPCA and Heather Young of Canterbury Gardens to learn about how Peterborough area seniors would benefit from the plan.

About Designated Physiotherapy Clinics (DPCs)

The province's 94 OHIP-funded Designated Physiotherapy Clinics (DPCs) have provided high-quality, low-cost care to more than 150,000 Ontario seniors, children, social assistance recipients and disabled persons each year in community clinics, Long-Term Care homes and retirement residences for almost 50 years. DPC physiotherapists provide high-quality, safe and effective treatment on a fee-for-service basis in Ontario for only $12.20 per treatment.
