University of Louisville Recognized as Entrepreneurial Champion for Third Consecutive Year at University of Cincinnati Spirit of Enterprise Competition Hosted by Cincom

(firmenpresse) - CINCINNATI, OH -- (Marketwire) -- 02/28/13 -- Four medical diagnostic entrepreneurs from the University of Louisville were awarded $10,000 by Cincom (), for their non-invasive screening tool that captures volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from a patient's breath to accurately detect lung cancer. This marks the University of Louisville's third succeeding year as champion at the University of Cincinnati's Graduate Business Plan Competition hosted by ().

"With innovation, clear vision and thoughtful action, these young entrepreneurs can find the path toward achieving success. It is this entrepreneurial ambition that deserves acknowledgement."

The is an annual competition hosted and sponsored by Cincom on behalf of the University of Cincinnati. It is an invitational event for rising stars to battle among the brightest entrepreneurial minds for prizes totaling $20,000.

This year's team members -- Douglass Donaldson, Justus Zils, Nicholas Muscato and James Edington -- stunned the judges in the championship round with (). As Spirit of Enterprise champions, the group has been entered into the 2013 Venture Labs Investment Competition taking place at the University of Texas at Austin in May 2013 in addition to receiving an invitation to present to the Greater Cincinnati Venture Association (GCVA).

The University of Louisville team was composed of the VOC Diagnostics management staff. "VOC Diagnostics is extremely proud to be the Spirit of Enterprise champion," said Douglass Donaldson, CEO of VOC Diagnostics. "This year's field of competitors and judges was outstanding, and, as always, Cincom provides an inspirational venue for all aspiring entrepreneurs. This experience moves us closer to making VitaLung the premier lung cancer screening tool in the world."

Other award-winning teams included the University of Illinois at Chicago (first runner-up) who presented the EverFile System -- a software solution that prevents data storage failure, the University of Miami (second runner-up) who developed SHHADE -- a service to determine which patients are over-utilizing emergency room services for chronic disease management and how to better serve them with in-home care, and the University of Arkansas (third runner-up) who developed Circumex -- an adult male circumcision device that is cost-effective and may be used in an outpatient setting while addressing World Health Organization (WHO) challenges.





Non-advancing finalists had the opportunity to take a 10-minute limousine ride for a chance to encounter a potential angel investor. This year, the University of Cincinnati delivered the award-winning pitch and was granted $1,000 for the PowerGenie -- a smart power strip that allows consumers to control active and passive home energy use from their smart phones.
