Minister Raitt Promotes Workplace Diversity, Health and Safety at the Canada 2020 Skilled Trades in the Energy Sector Conference

(firmenpresse) - OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 02/28/13 -- The Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, spoke to participants at the Canada 2020 conference on Skilled Trades in the Energy Sector about the value of workplace diversity and occupational health and safety.
"Workplaces across the country should provide all individuals with the opportunity to achieve their full potential and contribute to Canada's economic prosperity," said Minister Raitt. "Everyone-employers, employees and governments-has a role to play when it comes to promoting inclusive, safe and healthy workplaces."
Canada 2020's Skilled Trades in the Energy Sector conference provided an opportunity for industry executives, government representatives, labour unions, and educational institutions to discuss solutions to the skills and labour shortages facing Canada's energy sector.
The Labour Program develops, administers and enforces workplace legislation and regulations such as the Canada Labour Code, which covers industrial relations, health, safety and employment standards for federally regulated workers and employers, and the Employment Equity Act, which promotes workplace equality by removing the barriers faced by women, Aboriginal peoples, people with disabilities and visible minorities while on the job.
