ILAND official supplier of the project The Faux Dufaux
Neuchatel, March 6th 2013. Iland Green Technologies SA is very proud to announce that the company was chosen by The Faux Dufaux Team as solar energy supplier for the project to make a flying condition replica of the original Dufaux 4.
Armand Dufaux (1883 - 1941) was a Swiss aviation pioneer. He designed the Dufaux 4 and was their first successful craft. On 28 August 1910, Armand flew it over Geneva Lake from Noville to La Gabiule (c.40mi. 64km), taking just 56 minutes and 5 seconds, and winning a prize of 5’000 Swiss francs for the feat.
The Faux Dufaux project is to make a flying condition replica of the original Dufaux 4 with a reverse engineering process with more than 3’000 involved people including 17 academic partners like the Polytechnic school of Lausanne, the Engineering School of Fribourg, Le Locle and Yverdon-les-Bains. 54 industrial and institutional partners like Dassault Systèmes in Paris, Honda cars, Leica Geosystems, Perrot Duval Holding, TESA Technology, Colibrys, etc.
The Dufaux 4, on display at the Swiss Museum of Transport, was considered in 1910, the « state of the art » in aeronautical technology.
A first phase of tests (2010-2012)
The Faux Dufaux team tested "Target & chase program" for the first time ILAND products under test flights of replica models of the aircraft to charge batteries and radio remote control of the aircraft. The results of the tests and the support provided by ILAND products were considered positive and the company is now selected for the final step of the project.
Commemorative flight at the end of summer 2013
The commemorative flight consists to do one more time the same flight an in 1910 (Geneva Lake from Noville to La Gabiule: 64km). The pilot of the commemorative flight will be Claude Nicollier (born 2 September 1944 in Vevey, Switzerland). He is the first astronaut from Switzerland, and has flown on four Space Shuttle missions. His first spaceflight (STS-46) was in 1992, and his final spaceflight (STS-103) was in 1999. He took part in two servicing missions to the Hubble Space Telescope (called STS-61 and STS-103). During his final spaceflight he participated in a spacewalk, becoming the first European Space Agency astronaut to do so during a Space Shuttle mission (previous ESA astronauts conducted spacewalks aboard Mir, see List of spacewalks and moonwalks 1965–1999). In 2000 he was assigned to the Astronaut Office Extravehicular Activity Branch, while maintaining a position as Lead ESA astronaut in Houston. Nicollier retired from ESA in April 2007.
The project team of the Faux Dufaux decided to select ILAND and its products to ensure the power for the remote location systems and more particularly for the meteo advances bases (measuring speed and wind direction), to tags and signalling the flight routes and for the broadcast of telecommunication (WiFI GSM, 3G, etc..).
We asked Anibal Jaimes (responsible of the project) to explain why they were chosen ILAND as suppliers: "ILAND products are high quality products they are military certified and allowed autonomous production of energy. ILAND products are reliable, portable and easy to use. They are the perfect tool for this kind of special difficult mission. The ILAND products are perfect for our historical and ecological project
