"UNORTHODOX JUKEBOX" also received platinum certifications in the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, France, Canada and Ireland.
The platinum certifications come as "When I Was Your Man" -- the latest hit single from "UNORTHODOX JUKEBOX" -- has ascended to the #3 spot on Billboard's "Hot 100." The single follows the album's sensational first single, "Locked Out Of Heaven," which held the #1 position for six consecutive weeks earlier this year and continues to stand tall in the top 10 after 21 weeks on the chart.
The success of "When I Was Your Man" represents yet another milestone for Mars, making it his 11th song to pass 1 million downloads -- all since his arrival on the scene just three short years ago. The GRAMMY®-winning superstar can now lay claim to a truly remarkable statistic, marking over 100 million singles sold worldwide in his role as both solo artist and as chart-topping writer/producer/featured performer.
"UNORTHODOX JUKEBOX" can rightfully be called a global phenomenon, with platinum certification in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, France, Ireland and the United Kingdom, where it exploded to the top spot on the album charts upon its initial release, making history as Britain's fastest selling solo album of 2012. All this comes as Mars gets ready to embark on his sold out worldwide arena tour, which started going on sale last week. Several dates of "The Moonshine Jungle Tour" in both North America and Europe sold out within minutes, including two nights at Los Angeles' Staples Center and two nights at Denver's notorious Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Other cities that sold out soon after being announced include New York, London, Paris, Dublin and Madrid. Due to overwhelming demand, additional seats will be made available on select dates throughout the tour. More tour dates have also been added due to demand, including second shows in Toronto and London. Twenty-five dates for the tour will go on sale this Friday, March 8th (see attached itinerary). Special guests on select dates of the North American leg include Ellie Goulding and newly signed Elektra recording group Fitz and the Tantrums.
