Public Mobile Applauds Government Commitment to Increase Competition in Wireless Sector
(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 03/07/13 -- Public Mobile is pleased with Minister Paradis' promise today to improve competition and prices for consumers by ensuring there is a 4th viable mobile wireless player in every region of Canada.
Public Mobile also welcomes the Government's announcement that it will adopt a clear policy governing spectrum license transfers in order to ensure there is sufficient spectrum available to produce sustainable competition in the wireless sector. In particular, the company is pleased that the Minister's statement clarifies that Industry Canada will scrutinize and require approvals for "deemed spectrum license transfers" which have the practical effect of locking-up or transferring control of spectrum assets. Public Mobile welcomes the opportunity to participate in the consultation process to finalize the details of those rules.
In addition, Public Mobile views as very positive the Government's commitment to make additional spectrum resources available in the near future. This will further enhance the sustainability of a viable 4th player. Public Mobile is also pleased to see that the Minister has reinforced the authority of the CRTC to use its telecommunications expertise to set fair, competitive rates for both mandatory roaming and tower sharing.
