Dortmund: With the E910.71, ELMOS presents an ASSP for the control of 3 to
5 DC motors. The IC uses a so-called 'pulse detection' method, which
facilitates the sensorless position detection of an actuator driven by a DC
motor. Due to the multiple analysis of the motor commutation modulated
current signal, the chip has an outstanding accuracy regarding actuator
positioning. By the use of a configuration register, pulse detection can be
adjusted to different motor types.
Possible applications are actuators for e.g. climate flaps in automobiles
as well as small actuating drives in industrial applications.
The IC E910.71 has 6 integrated, configurable half bridges able to drive 3
DC motor at the same time or up to 5 motors sequentially. The chip receives
all the required data via an SPI interface, such as motor address, the
direction of rotation, or the amount of errant pulses. After the
transmission of this small amount of data, the chips controls the half
bridges and drives the corresponding motor to the desired position. In this
process, 3 autonomous pulse detectors (ripple counters) continually convert
the amplitudes in the motor current into digital signals, to be analyzed by
the internal logic unit. When the target position is reached, the motor
stops automatically and the counted amount of the driven pulses are
transmitted back to the controller. If a stall occurs, the IC turns off the
motor.
Besides motor control, the following data is transmitted to theµC through
the SPI interface: overcurrent, overtemperature, and stall detection. An
additional signal conduct indicates that the targeted motor position is
reached or that new diagnosis data are available.
Multiple chips can be connected cascaded as a daisy chain. The chip is
shipped in a space-saving QFN or SO28 package.
