Claimants Urged to Beat 'No Win, No Fee' Deadline

(firmenpresse) - CREWE, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwire) -- 03/22/13 -- Claimants wishing to make a personal injury claim have been advised to act fast before proposed government legislation abolishes the 'no win, no fee' system.

Conditional Fee Arrangements, the official name for the 'no win no fee' arrangement, were introduced for personal injury claims in 1995 and have since allowed claimants to seek compensation without risk for injuries or illness sustained due to the negligence of someone else.

However, it is now likely that controversial changes to the personal injury legal system will be implemented as early as April 2013.

These changes will potentially have a dramatic impact on future , removing the 'no win, no fee' arrangement and introducing other restrictions designed to curb what the government perceives to be a high number of compensation claims.

According to one personal injury firm, the changes are unnecessary and a knee-jerk response to media pressure.

A spokesperson for said: "This legislation is an unfortunate response to the pressure placed on the government with regard to the perceived 'compensation culture', and it does not properly consider the implications for either the claimants or the profession as a whole.

"Successful claims will be reduced in value as solicitors will be forced to take their fees out of the compensation funds, while claimants will now be left with fees to pay should the claim be unsuccessful.

"Claimants have three years from the time of an accident to launch a claim, so we would strongly advise that now is the best time to do it as after April it's quite likely that making a claim will cost money."

The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers has launched a campaign in conjunction with the Law Society to try to alleviate the impact of the changes for the personal injury industry.

Personal Injury Solicitor is one of the many firms to have won compensation for its clients under the 'no win, no fee' system.
