Iceland Ranked as Most Welcoming Holiday Destination by World Economic Forum

(firmenpresse) - LONDON, ENGLAND -- (Marketwire) -- 03/27/13 -- Iceland has been ranked as the most welcoming holiday destination in the world, according to a new report published by the World Economic Forum. The non-profit organization ranked the island in the North Atlantic number one alongside New Zealand.
As part of the report titled, Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2013, the World Economic Forum surveyed a selection of visitors to Iceland and asked them how they were made to feel in the country as foreign visitors. Both Iceland and New Zealand scored 6.8 out of 7; which was higher than any other country.
Within the 'Attitude of population toward foreign visitors' subsection of the report, the scoring system was based on a number ranking, with 1 equaling 'very unwelcome' and in contrast, 7 being 'very welcome'.
"Icelanders are extremely receptive towards their foreign visitors, with tourism being heavily ingrained into modern society; we welcome our guests from overseas with open arms," explains Gudmundur Gudmundsson, Marketing Manager at WOW air.
Gudmundsson followed by stating that Iceland has a very low crime rate, which allows for a comfortable experience when travelling across the country or exploring urban life in Iceland's cities.
