NSi AutoStore Recognized for Streamlining Business Processes at Toyota Industries North America

(NSi), a leading provider of paper and electronic document capture and output management solutions, announced today that it has received a 2013 Kinetic Process Innovation Award in the Data Capture category for its work with Toyota Industries North America. The 17th annual awards program, sponsored by High Tech Views, an online technology publication, recognizes excellence and innovation in the application of information technology.
Toyota Industries of North America (TINA) selected NSi to better manage thousands of paper and electronic documents for the groups involved in the manufacturing and sales of Toyota Lift Trucks. The solution includes a simpler and less-paper intensive way to track shipments, manage dealer and customer invoices and simplify the import/export process. Toyota embraced NSi's ability to optimize the delivery of both electronic and paper documents into the same business process workflows, regardless of whether the document originated at a user's workstation or was scanned on one of the company's Multi-Function Devices (MFDs).
According to Dale Colliver, TINA's information technology manager, "Toyota is committed to the kaizen principle of continuous improvement, and NSi has given us the ability to significantly improve our business processes and a platform to easily extend the solution to other areas in the organization. We've been able to save time and money, significantly improve productivity and install more efficient procedures that are helping people make quicker and better-informed business decisions," he noted.
An example of a new process improvement is Toyota's Voice of the Dealer program, an inspection checklist that goes out with every truck and provides the opportunity for dealer feedback. The previous process included faxing, printing and manually sorting information. Today a printed form goes out with each truck identified by number. Dealers fill out and fax the form back to Toyota where NSi's flagship product, NSi™ AutoStore®, then picks it up from a folder, and uses zonal optical character recognition (OCR) to read the number providing access to each truck's detailed information. In addition, NSi AutoStore creates a text file that can capture all extraneous comments. This new process is estimated to eliminate about 90 percent of the previous process.
