Treasure Coast Commuters Enjoy a Free Taxi Ride Home in Case of an Emergency
(firmenpresse) - FORT LAUDERDALE, FL -- (Marketwired) -- 04/03/13 -- With funding from the Florida Department of Transportation, the Emergency Ride Home Program has been expanded to the Treasure Coast. The Treasure Coast Emergency Ride Home (TCERH) program provides registered commuters who work or attend college in Martin or St. Lucie County with a free taxi ride home in the event of an emergency or unscheduled overtime.
The program, administered by South Florida Commuter Services (SFCS), is available to commuters who carpool, vanpool, ride transit, bicycle, or walk to work at least three days a week. College students are required to share a ride to campus twice weekly to qualify. Eligible "emergency" situations include illness of the commuter or a member of his/her immediate family; unscheduled overtime or extended work hours; or a carpool/vanpool driver's inability to make the scheduled trip home due to an unexpected work schedule or illness. Each registered TCERH program participant is allowed up to six free emergency rides per year. A qualified voucher must be given to the taxi company to utilize the service. This does not include gratuity for the taxi driver.
"One of the main reasons people do not take transit or join carpools is because they're worried about getting home quickly when family members get sick or there is a personal emergency," said SFCS Project Director James Udvardy.
To participate in the program, commuters can register online at 1800234RIDE.com or over the phone at 1-800-234-RIDE (7433) with a customer service representative at SFCS. To be eligible for the TCERH Program, commuters must register in advance and must renew their registration annually. The free taxi rides are available between the hours of 5:00 am and 9:00 pm and are provided from the place of employment or college address listed on the commuter's profile.
