Successful cooperation with Thorlabs strengthened
asphericon and Thorlabs Inc. intensify their existing cooperation by adding another product line from the asphericon SPA™-series

(firmenpresse) - Jena, - August 2010: asphericon and Thorlabs Inc., one of the world's largest distributors of optics, announce the expansion of their cooperation to provide standard aspherical components. To begin with, the asphericon SPA™ Low-NA standard line will be available online, later on, it will also be included in the world-famous Thorlabs catalog.
asphericon SPA™ Low-NA comprises a total of five different aspherical lenses with diameters ranging from 12.5 to 100mm and an effective focal length from 25 to 200mm. These optics distinguish themselves through their focal length-diameter-ratio (f/d) of 2.0. SPA™ Low-NA are ideally suited for laser applications and light collection. By use of a low dispersion material, these aspheres minimize chromatic aberration. In addition, the transmitted wavefront for diameters larger than 15mm is typically 20 to 50 times better than for molded lenses.
"Cooperating with Thorlabs Inc. will facilitate market access to serve our customers all over the world and will allow us to further strengthen our presence in our core markets," according to Managing Director Alexander W. Zschäbitz. "Since its start in 2007, the cooperation with Thorlabs has developed in a unique way which has succeeded in generating double-digit growth rates. asphericon's SPA™ Low-NA line ideally complements Thorlabs' existing catalog range and offers our mutual customers complementary solutions to demanding applications."
In addition, the management of asphericon GmbH felt extremely positive that the cooperation with Thorlabs would continue to generate further opportunities in the future. Both companies constantly check if and to what extent additional products could be included into the range in terms of a win-win situation.
