Winning Article Selected for Advancing the Field of Industrial / Organizational Psychology

(firmenpresse) - HOUSTON, TX -- (Marketwired) -- 04/16/13 -- today announced the recipients of this year's Hogan Award for Personality and Work Performance. The 2013 Hogan Award, presented by the , was presented to In-Sue Oh, Temple University, Gang Wang, University of Idaho, and Michael K. Mount, University of Iowa, for their article, "Validity of Observer Ratings of the Five-Factor Model of Personality Traits: A Meta-Analysis," published in the Journal of Applied Psychology, volume 96.

The annual Hogan Award honors the founders of Hogan Assessment Systems, Drs. Joyce and Robert Hogan. The award recognizes the paper or chapter in the industrial and organizational psychology field that best demonstrates innovation in applied personality research.

In their winning article, Oh, Gang and Mount's meta-analytic approach to the relationship between personality traits and job performance reveals insightful conclusions about the validity of observer ratings of Five-Factor Model (FFM) traits versus the validity estimates based on self-report measures of FFM traits.

"Their theoretical contribution to the field of personality is something to be recognized," said Robert Hogan, one of the award's namesakes.

The authors conclude that the validity of FFM traits in predicting overall job performance is higher than previously believed.

"Our results underscore the importance of disentangling the validity of personality traits from the method of measurement of the traits," the authors stated in their article.

With more than 30 years of experience, Hogan is the global leader in providing comprehensive, research-based personality assessment and consulting. Grounded in decades of science, Hogan helps businesses dramatically reduce turnover and increase productivity by hiring the right people, developing key talent and evaluating leadership potential.
