Kids and Fire Make a Bad Match

Benjamin (not his real name) is 13 years old. Abuse, depression and a string of fire setting episodes have landed him at Brandon, a residential treatment facility located in Natick, Massachusetts that's had real success in helping kids with fire setting issues. Prior to the availability of proper intervention in his community, such as outpatient therapy or a day program, a child like Benjamin might have spent time in detention or a psychiatric hospital. More tragically, he might have started a fire with devastating consequences. Since coming to Brandon, Benjamin, by his own estimate, sees a bright future without the anguish of a flame-lit future.
Fortunately for Benjamin and the thousands of at risk kids across America for whom fire setting is a serious (and sometimes deadly) issue, Brandon's skilled practitioners share a mission with other dedicated clinicians and interventionists. In hosting the 7th Annual Northeast Youth Firesetting Conference, Brandon and MA SAFE have created a unique resource for fire prevention personnel, law enforcement officers, clinicians and educators.
With a program featuring leading experts in mental health, fire prevention, education and community outreach, the Northeast Youth Firesetting Conference for 2013 will bring people together from all over the country for a day of presentations, intensive seminars (many featuring in-service credits) and networking.
