Thomson Reuters Launches Youth Perspectives on Sustainability Website
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Youth-authored essays, videos, news articles and more provide youth perspectives
on creating a more sustainable world
NEW YORK, Apr. 26, 2013 - Thomson Reuters, the world's leading source of
intelligent information for businesses and professionals, has launched a new
section on its Sustainability
website (http://sustainability.thomsonreuters.com) that is devoted to voices and
perspectives from youth around the globe on creating a more sustainable path for
the future.
Youth Perspectives on Sustainability
(http://sustainability.thomsonreuters.com/youth-perspective/), launched as part
of Earth Week 2013, draws together essays and videos written and produced by
young people from dozens of different countries, discussing what the issue of
sustainability means to them and their communities, as well as efforts they are
personally undertaking to promote awareness and greater sustainability. Topics
range from tips from students on how individuals can help reduce global warming
to letters from Kenyan students to their government expressing the urgency of
addressing climate change.
Partner organizations are tapping into their networks around the world to gather
first-person perspectives from young people. These include the United Nations
Environment Programme (www.unep.org), which is the voice for the environment in
the United Nations system, and myclimate (www.myclimate.org), a project
initially developed by students that has grown into one of the world's most
recognized and internationally active climate-protection organizations.
In addition, Youth Perspectives on Sustainability provides environmental- and
climate-related news about events impacting world youth, gathered from the
global news resources of Reuters. Topics recently covered range from how
Mongolian teens are using rap and hip-hop to express the stresses of
urbanization, to how gathering discarded plastic bags and other recycling
projects is creating green jobs for young women in Africa.
"Sustainability is about meeting the needs of the present without compromising
the ability of future generations to meet their own needs," said Stephane Bello,
Chief Financial Officer, Thomson Reuters. "Sustainability from Thomson Reuters
gives fresh voice to the current issues relating to this basic problem of
preservation. It's absolutely critical that the next generation should have
their voice through the site."
