Haven's First Solar Powered Caravan
Haven trials its first holiday home with a mounted solar panel on its roof at Rockley Park Holiday Park, Poole.
(firmenpresse) - HEMEL HEMPSTEAD, UNITED KINGDOM -- (Marketwired) -- 04/29/13 -- Haven are always seeking to make their business as green as possible, both within the parks and, more specifically, on the caravan's features and the model itself.
Daniel Coward, a member of Haven's sustainability team, explains, "The benefits in terms of electrical production won't be huge, we are looking at a generation of around GBP 200-GBP 300 worth of electrical power per annum. But this could be enough to offset the consumption of the holiday home, and as accommodation accounts for 40% of the parks consumption, over time this initiative could make a real difference."
has been chosen as the trial park by the Haven Environmental Team because they feel that this is the park in the best location to capture the solar energy, therefore, they can measure the results of the trial here before they apply them elsewhere.
Working alongside Willerby, the caravan manufacturers, and Environmental Energies, Haven has given the go ahead to this project and will monitor its progress before deciding whether to roll them out to more holiday homes or other parks.
For the guest, the experience will be the same, with their usual electrical connections and power being drawn from the network as usual. The power generated by the solar unit will feed into the grid, helping the parks overall efficiency, without disrupting the team's day to day work. The caravan will not be obtrusive either, as it will only be from one side that you can see it see the panel.
Alongside this project, as a whole Haven have been working on their efficiency strategy. This includes high efficiency shower heads, which save a quarter of the amount of water used per shower and over an annum would save around 8000 litres of water and also, tap aerators to have the same effect on water coming out of the taps. Another feature is the Morco Touch, an instant heat boost button, which cuts emissions by 20% so that the guests are taken care of but Haven are still doing their bit for the environment.
