codeREADr Integrates Low Cost Reader to Capture Student, Employee and Membership IDs Embedded in the Magnetic Stripes of Traditional Plastic Cards

(firmenpresse) - BOSTON, MA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/02/13 -- , developers of , the commercial barcode scanning app, has today announced offering magstripe reading as an alternative to capturing student, employee and member IDs via barcodes and NFC. Applications include virtually any type of mobile data collection, though the technology is ideal for remote and activity tracking.

"We see the transition to mobile IDs as inevitable, especially as apps like Passbook become popular. However, traditional plastic ID cards will remain in circulation for many years. Our clients asked that we support both. Since these legacy cards often have the person's ID embedded in magnetic stripes, we decided to add that capture method for Android devices immediately and for iOS devices in the coming months," said Rich Eicher, Skycore's CEO.

codeREADr integrated ID TECH's '' which plugs directly into a smartphone or tablet's audio jack and has a rubber base to help secure it while swiping. Reading the embedded ID is quick and cards can be swiped by the app user or card owner.

"We chose the Shuttle for its design features, low cost and, unlike the readers offered by Square and PayPal, because it's available without an integrated payment service," said Eicher.

Using codeREADr's Web site, account administrators can create custom tracking & validation services, authorize app users and upload databases. Alternatively, they can use their own servers along with codeREADr's extensive APIs.

"Since many IDs already have magnetic stripes on them, implementing attendance tracking can be quick and inexpensive as there's no need to print new ID cards. Also, using smartphones and tablets as the data collection device will minimize the total expense," said Eicher.
