Yukon Is First Jurisdiction in Canada to Require Carbon Monoxide Detectors in Residences

(firmenpresse) - WHITEHORSE, YUKON -- (Marketwired) -- 05/03/13 -- The Oil-Fired Appliance Safety Statutory Amendment Act was passed in the Yukon Legislative Assembly yesterday, making Yukon the first jurisdiction in the country to pass legislation requiring carbon monoxide detectors in all dwelling units with fuel-burning appliances or attached garages.
"I am very pleased to see this leading edge legislation passed, which put simply, will save lives," Community Services Minister Elaine Taylor said. "It is my hope that other jurisdictions will follow our lead by requiring the use of carbon monoxide detectors."
In addition to the new legislation, the Government of Yukon is working to provide training opportunities for the local oil-fired appliance industry and is continuing a series of public awareness campaigns on carbon monoxide and heating system safety.
