VASSETI TO BUILD 50 DATA HUBS IN MALAYSIA
By Vasseti IR
Dated 6th May 2013
VTEL, a subsidiary of Vasseti (UK) Plc, plans to build 46 Regional Internet
Hubs in MALAYSIA!
KUALA LUMPUR, 6TH MAY 2013, The Peninsular Malaysia Coastal Network
('PMCN') is a data telecommunication network infrastructure project
consisting of more than 2,000kms of terrestrial fibre optic network along
the coastal roads of the Peninsular Malaysia. This network will connect
population outside the Klang Valley in every major towns and cities with a
state-of-the-art information highway, using newly laid fibre optic
infrastructure powered by next generation network technology. The MCN will
also host four (4) independent submarine cable landing stations. Currently
VTEL has its nationwide network backbone as well as metro network within
the Klang Valley and all major towns and cities. The Peninsular Malaysia
Coastal Network will also see the establishment of more than 50 data hubs
throughout the country.
The project is an important component of the USD5bil Vasseti South Asia
Network ('VSAN'), which will link three of the world's most populous
nations i.e. India, China and Indonesia through a series of terrestrial
fibre optic network. When VSAN is complete, it will boast more than 30,000
kms of fibre optic infrastructure. The PMCN is part of the first phase of
the VSAN project that will digitally empower more than a dozen nations in
South Asia in bridging the digital divide that dubbed the region as most
digitally- underserved area in the world.
The Scope of the project is as follows;
1. More than 2,000kms of terrestrial fibre optic network infrastructure;
2. Development of 46 Vasseti Internet Stations ('VISTA') cum Data Centres
throughout the Peninsular Malaysia;
3. Development of 4 independent submarine cable landing stations linking
the global internet players with Malaysian ISP networks;
4. Development of Telco Hotels i.e. Border Data Gateways at the
Thai-Malaysia border as well as Singapore-Malaysia border.
The company intends to replicate the VISTA stations all along the
terrestrial network within its VSAN to provide access to underserved areas.
The ultimate objective of the project is not only to bridge the digital
divide that exists between the main business districts and other populated
areas around the Peninsular Malaysia but it will also be the catalyst to
support the development of soft-infrastructure based economic activities
i.e. e-commerce, e-learning, e-payments etc. Such soft-infrastructure
provides no country barriers for business and will promote global
economies, maybe within less than a decade.
The reach of the project will be extended through the establishment of
approximately 46 Regional Internet Hubs, located at most major towns and
cities in Peninsular Malaysia. It will also connect 4 independent submarine
cable landing stations such that other global internet players can
interconnect with Malaysian network for faster and cheaper internet
offering.
In addition, the project will serve as a neutral and economical
'data-highway' for all telecommunication companies ('telcos'), cellular
network providers ('celcos'), internet service providers ('ISPs') and
content service providers ('broadcasters') to reach underserved areas for
their business offerings.
