art KARLSRUHE: quality and diversity in one
(LifePR) - The focal point for art - an apt description of the eight art KARLSRUHE, inviting visitors to the halls of the Karlsruhe Trade Fair and Exhibition Centre from 10 to 13 March 2011. In the coming spring it will be attracting attention from far and wide with an excellent range of paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints of classic modern and contemporary art, multiples, and photography. Its continuous increase in quality bore more fruit at the last event: with over 40,000 visitors, art KARLSRUHE 2010 recorded the greatest visitor interest since its doors first opened.
The number of around 350 applications by national and international galleries has remained unchanged. The board of trustees and art-fair curator and project manager Ewald Karl Schrade have selected over 200 exhibitors. One of them appearing for the first time is Galerie Hilger (Vienna). "Commitment is being shown to art KARLSRUHE. Our clients are satisfied and are loyal to us," is the first conclusion Schrade draws: "Almost all the heavyweights are taking part again in 2011 - from Baumgarten (Freiburg), Deschler (Berlin), Holtmann (Cologne), Maulberger (Munich), Scheffel (Bad Homburg), Schultz (Berlin, Beijing, Seoul), and van der Koelen (Mainz, Venice) to Werner (Cologne, London, New York)".
art KARLSRUHE is pursuing its successful strategy of addressing a broad spectrum of clients with a combination of quality and diversity. 19 sculpture zones give rhythm to the circuit as before. The 16 specialists for editions, in other words graphics, multiples and photography, are presenting their offerings in Hall 1 as usual. Also on display here is the special showcase entitled "Nine decades of fashion photography" from the portfolio of Camera Work of Berlin. And in the dm-arena the view opens up on to the Kopp Collection from Munich.
The Regional Association of Berlin Galleries is attending the event for the third and, in this form, last time with its exhibition entitled ART FROM BERLIN. Young gallery owners from Germany's capital are designing a section of their own in the dm arena: funded by the Berlin Senate, each one has been given the opportunity to stage an individual presentation on an area of 25 m². This particular hall is traditionally dedicated to the most recent art. Besides the refreshing offerings from Berlin, 30 so-called New Positions are also presenting their artists.
For the fourth time the art fair is also the platform for awarding the Hans Platschek Prize for Art and Writing (10 March). The fourth Baden-Württemberg and City of Karlsruhe art KARLSRUHE Prize will also be honouring the artist and gallery with the best one-artist show (11 March).
At the ARTIMA art meeting twelve contemporary-art specialists will once again be answering the questions put to them by Karlheinz Schmid, chief editor of KUNSTZEITUNG. On 10 March the event revolves around the question of "What's the point of art?", and on 11 March it seeks to find answers to "What purpose does the market serve?"
