KLEAN Treatment Center Highlights Potential Danger of Currently Legal Party Drug "Benzo Fury"
As "Benzo Fury" -- a Legal Party Drug -- Gains Popularity in the UK and the United States, Many Health Authorities Are Looking at the Potential Addiction Risks of the Substance; KLEAN Treatment Center Weighs in on This Emerging Drug
(firmenpresse) - WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/15/13 -- As a comprehensive substance abuse rehabilitation facility, remains focused on helping individuals gain sobriety after continued use of harmful drugs. While the facility strives to educate communities about current drug abuse risks -- such as through its involvement with The LA Teen Project -- the KLEAN staff recognizes that new drugs and harmful substances are always entering the market. As such, the facility highlights an emerging "party drug" known as "Benzo Fury" -- or 6-APB -- that could carry harmful side effects, and even lead to addiction.
A recent from FOX News states, "A party drug available over the Internet and often taken by young people in Britain and the United States may harbor unknown risks because it has both stimulant and hallucinogenic effects...Researchers who analyzed the effect of the drug called 'Benzo Fury' on the brains of rats found it had similar effects to some illegal drugs such as amphetamines or cocaine, which can cause hallucinations and are also addictive."
While the drug can be legally purchased, those at KLEAN Treatment Center urge consumers to stay away from the substance, as it is not fully researched. In its press statement, KLEAN explains, "It is never advised to take any substance that is not necessary and does not carry a solid recommendation for use under a trusted medical physician. Therefore, Benzo Fury and any variations of the substance should be avoided, even if it is technically legal."
In the article, Jolanta Opacka-Juffry of Britain's University of Roehampton, who led the aforementioned study, explains the drug's dangers, "Pure hallucinogens are not addictive as such because they do not cause an increase in dopamine release, unlike amphetamine or cocaine...But Benzo Fury with its mixed properties is a trap as its repetitive use for the hallucinogenic effects could lead to dependence." Opacka-Juffry adds, "Its effect on serotonin receptors also suggested it may lead to high blood pressure by causing constriction of the blood vessels, making the substance potentially more risky."
With so little known about the drug, KLEAN Treatment Center hopes that there will be more efforts to determine the potential dangers of Benzo Fury, and that more consumers will become aware of its high risk to create addiction.
