New Campus-Wide, High-Capacity Wi-Fi From Meru Enables High Performance for Students, Teachers, Staff and Guests

(firmenpresse) - MUNICH, GERMANY -- (Marketwired) -- 05/23/13 -- (NASDAQ: MERU), a leader in virtualized 802.11n Wi-Fi networks, today announced that the Cologne Business School (CBS) in Germany has chosen to address ongoing growth of device density and network traffic with the deployment of a campus-wide Wi-Fi network. The deployment includes Meru's industry-leading guest access solution, Identity Manager.

"With the Meru WLAN system we have installed a solution that really meets our needs -- particularly with regard to heterogeneity and user density," said Guido Lokietek, head of the IT department at CBS. "As a result of the faster distribution of new policies, network management has also become easier. In addition, the monitoring feature provides us with a detailed insight into the wireless network load by means of information such as throughput and number of users."

Supported by system integrator AXIANS, the decision-makers at CBS were looking for a new wireless system as the existing system had been pushed to its limits. This resulted in irritating congestion and slow transmission speeds. The CBS IT department created a test setup in which 80 people in the college's largest auditorium simultaneously tried to download a two gigabyte file to their respective end devices. The best results were achieved with the MEG WLAN platform from Meru.

Visitors to CBS also benefit from the new wireless solution, as Meru's Identity Manager Guest Connect guest access solution enables quick and easy onboarding for them and their devices. The feature also allows IT staff to focus on other items, as guest access no longer has to be manually set up via Microsoft Active Directory.

Meru's MEG platform is designed to solve colleges' and universities' BYOD issues and support their uninterrupted learning applications. MEG starts with three simple steps:

1. Onboard quickly with BYOD provisioning and secure wireless access mapped to IT policies.
2. Connect all BYOD devices reliably anywhere on campus.

3. Learn by deploying validated learning and teaching applications on BYOD devices over the MEG wireless platform.

"Innovative colleges and universities such as Cologne Business School are increasingly looking to Meru's MEG platform to help them address device density and traffic growth," said Sarosh Vesuna, vice president and general manager of the education business unit at Meru. "Wi-Fi capacity challenges have become extremely common in higher education, and we continue to optimize our offering to help universities address them."
