The Vermont Country Store Opens Family Wellness Centers
(firmenpresse) - WESTON, VT -- (Marketwired) -- 06/03/13 -- The Vermont Country Store has opened Family Wellness Centers at their Manchester and North Clarendon locations, providing convenient access to acute health care services to employees and their family members. The Vermont Country Store's Family Wellness Center was developed in partnership with Marathon Health, a Vermont-based business that is one of the nation's leading providers of worksite health.
The companies announced plans in January to open the centers, which form the cornerstone of The Vermont Country Store's commitment to offer innovative programs and benefits to their employees that are focused on improving wellbeing. "My brothers and I are proud to have combined the old-fashioned notion of house calls with modern medicine by bringing healthcare to work," said Gardner Orton, who with his brothers, Cabot and Eliot, are third-generation owners of The Vermont Country Store. "Our family is thrilled that the dream of affordable and convenient access to healthcare is now a reality for our employees and their families."
Employees are already making appointments and being seen by Marathon Health's family nurse practioner in The Vermont Country Store's new medical offices in Manchester and North Clarendon. The health centers are open to all of The Vermont Country Store's 475 year-round employees, regardless of their health coverage, as well as to dependent family members who are covered under the company's medical plan. The centers provide primary care services for common illnesses and injuries, as well as health screenings and coaching to address lifestyle health risks. The wellness centers also dispense common, generic prescription medications to treat diagnosed illnesses.
"All of the planning for the centers has come together, and our staff is excited to be serving The Vermont Country Store's employees in a whole new way," said Jerry Ford, CEO of Marathon Health. "VCS is one of our earliest partners, so we are pleased that through the Family Wellness Centers, we have an even greater ability to help employees improve their lives."
All indications are that the centers are a hit with employees. "The early feedback has been terrific," said Geof Brown, head of human resources for The Vermont Country Store. "What we are already hearing from our employees tells us that we have created something that's more than the sum of its parts -- it's improving their overall wellbeing. This approach may not work for every business, but taking our own path has been the key to our success."
