Zhone Technologies Introduces a New High Performance Uplink Card Building on the
Momentum of its Industry Leading MXK
Leader in FTTx network access solutions shows continued traction with more than
4,600 MXK's shipped
Oakland, CA - June 4, 2013 - Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZHNE), a global
leader in FTTx network access solutions, announced the release of the newest
version of its MXK High-performance Uplink card with new innovation in hardware
architecture that essentially doubles the network facing uplink capacity. The
new uplink card was designed to enable operators to offer superior high-
bandwidth services in a variety of different networks by offering a wide range
of available service types and features. This will allow operators to offer
superior high-bandwidth services with models that support both copper and fiber
small form-factor pluggable transceivers (SFPs). Additionally, the MXK uplink
card provides full network redundancy by supporting both an active card and a
backup standby in the same chassis. If a card or network failure occurs, the
standby card will take over without dropping any calls.
Zhone continues to generate substantial growth in global deployments of its
industry-leading MXK(TM) multi-service access node (MSAN), shipping a total of
4,676 MXK's across the globe by the end of Q1 2013. Demonstrating continued
market leadership, Zhone has continued to focus its deployment efforts on its
Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON), Active Ethernet (AE) and Very-High-Bit-
Rate Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL2) technologies, with a GPON subscriber
capacity of 32.5 million.

capacity of up to 3,600 100 Mbps GPON subscribers or 360 1G Active Ethernet
subscribers. Zhone's ONT deployment growth has also increased at a CAGR of 228
percent since Q1 2009, while MXK OLT has grown at a CAGR of 232 percent.
