(firmenpresse) - KANSAS CITY, MO -- (Marketwired) -- 06/06/13 -- Today, Dr. Jeffrey Cropsey, Grantham University's vice president for strategic initiatives, will lead a workshop discussing Best Practices for Military & with fellow members of the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities' (APSCU) "Blue Ribbon" Task Force. The workshop will take place at the APSCU conference in Orlando, Fla.

Today, the typical college student is no longer one who is fresh out of high school. Rather, most first-time college students now are those who have delayed enrollment due to other obligations, such as serving in the military, and who work full-time while attending school part-time. Between August 2009 and January 2013, approximately 1,143,105 veterans were a part of this "nontraditional" student population.

"With the growing number of veterans pursuing higher education, best practices for their educational success should be utilized by every college and university serving this unique population of students," said Dr. Cropsey.

Because of the unique life experiences and perspectives that military and veteran students bring with them to the classroom, it was critical for industry best practices to be established to ensure the attainment of their academic goals at any college or university. In this workshop, Dr. Cropsey, will discuss "The Five Tenets of Veteran Education," identified by the taskforce to measure the academic success of military and veteran students, and develop best practices needed for this success.
