Introduces Box $rev, Industry-First Monetization Program for Developers

(firmenpresse) - LOS ALTOS, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/06/13 -- Box today unveiled Box $rev™, a new program for developers to monetize their applications on the Box platform and bring new innovation to the emerging enterprise app economy. Box $rev will measure customer interactions with third party apps integrated on Box and compensate developers based on that usage. The company also introduced new SDKs for iOS and Android that make it incredibly easy for developers to integrate with Box and reach its community of more than 15 million users.

"We're rewriting the rules when it comes to supporting the next generation of enterprise app developers," said Aaron Levie, co-founder and CEO of Box. "Mobile has democratized the app market and created a huge opportunity for developers, but enterprise apps are still struggling to monetize effectively. Box $rev changes this by creating a simple incentive program for developers to generate revenue, in turn supercharging a much richer app ecosystem for businesses and individuals everywhere."

With Box $rev, developers are paid when a Box Business or Enterprise customer uses a third-party app that's integrated with Box. Box $rev will provide access to Box's global network of more than 150,000 businesses, including 92% of the Fortune 500. Box's mission is to make it easy for people to share, manage and access their business content from any device. The Box $rev program builds on this by compensating developers for extending the power of Box and empowering people to do more with their content.

Box $rev is launching today with ten inaugural Box OneCloud partners including CloudOn, Notability, Documents by Readdle, PDFExpert, iAnnotate, Genius Scan, CamScanner, Outline+, GoodNotes and SmartOffice. Over time, Box $rev will expand to a broader set of programs and capabilities that help developers easily monetize their apps in the enterprise.

"Box $rev is an exciting first step that allows developers to begin monetizing their apps in the enterprise without the need for new versions or complicated changes to pricing models," said Ravi Bhatt, CEO of Branchfire, the company behind iAnnotate. "We have over a million users of the consumer version of iAnnotate and this program allows us to realize additional revenue when customers use Box."

Box's new enterprise SDKs for iOS and Android make it incredibly easy for developers to build mobile apps that work seamlessly and at scale with Box in a matter of hours. The new SDKs add the ability for users to select Box files through a secure file picker with only a few lines of code. Box has also added built-in SSO support to easily manage enterprise identity, removing many of the typical barriers to content access in business environments.

Box OneCloud, the first mobile cloud for the enterprise has experienced significant growth since it was introduced in March 2012 to unify business information across devices and applications. Today, the Box OneCloud ecosystem includes more than 500 app integrations, including new partner's drchrono, SmartOffice and Documents by Readdle. 43% of the Fortune 500 are using Box OneCloud today.
