Transmode and Surf Telecoms win at Global Telecom Business Awards
(Thomson Reuters ONE) -
Stockholm, Sweden, - 7th June 2013 - Transmode, a global supplier of packet-
optical networking solutions, today announced that its design and build of a new
extended low-latency ROADM based packet-optical network for Surf Telecoms has
won the Global Telecom Business award for fixed network infrastructure
innovation.
At a black-tie event held at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in central London on
Tuesday the innovation award was presented to Transmode by Alan Burkitt-Gray,
Editor of the Global Telecom Business magazine.
When presenting the award Burkett-Gray said, "This project stood out from other
nominees because of its innovative design, especially when it comes to
flexibility. It is an advanced low-latency ROADM-based core network allowing
Surf Telecoms' customers to migrate easily from E1 to Ethernet and IP services.
At the same time it is easy to manage and future-proof. This project exemplifies
the innovation we wish to applaud"
The on-going project started in 2012 when Surf Telecoms decided to enhance and
upgrade its existing network. Transmode worked with Surf Telecoms to implement a
planned increase in the capacity of Surf Telecoms' optical-fibre network in
order to cope with increasing bandwidth demand from customers.
Besides the need for more capacity Transmode supplied Surf Telecoms with network
equipment needed to extend its network from the South of England and Wales into
the Midlands.
The new network needed to support existing customers as well as Surf's parent
company Western Power Distribution. It also had to cover a full Multi Service
Access solution that could combine E1, SDH and Ethernet enterprise services on
the same infrastructure and meet the requirements of future IP services.
Transmode worked with Surf and designed an advanced ROADM-based packet-optical
network that was not over engineered and kept costs down.
The aim of the new network was to enable Surf Telecoms to future-proof its
infrastructure so that it could rapidly respond to customers' needs, provision
new services and increase bandwidth on demand.
Björn Andersson, Vice President Sales for Transmode, commented, "We are
delighted to once again win an innovation award from Global Telecom Business
with Surf Telecoms. Without a visionary customer and an excellent working
relationship, this type of innovation is not possible. The award is a
recognition of all the hard work done by a dedicated team at both Transmode and
Surf Telecoms."
