is a documentary examining the plight of gays and lesbians in the Central African nation of the Republic of Cameroon. It made its premiere as an Official Selection of the 2013 Berlin International Film Festival. .
Directed and produced by Shaun Kadlec and Deb Tullmann (FIRST AND LOVELISS), BORN THIS WAY follows Cedric and Gertrude, two young Cameroonians, as they move between a secret, supportive LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community and an outside culture that is intensely homophobic. Set in the capital city of Douala, which is relatively safe for gays and where activists, including Cedric and Gertrude, have built "Alternatives - Cameroun," a center to protect the LGBT community against homophobic violence, the film also tells the story of heroic lawyer Alice Nkom, who tirelessly fights for their legal representation.
