In May, Experience Art and Design acquired Chiurazzi Internationale S.r.l.,
which owns and operates the Chiurazzi Foundry based in Casoria, Italy.
In 1890, the Chiurazzi Foundry obtained authorization of the Italian Ministry of
Culture Heritage and Activities to enter the National Archeological Museum in
Casoria to take moulds of the collection of art and artifacts excavated from the
ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
The mould-making was then expanded to other museums in Italy including the
Vatican, and then expanded to the foremost museums in the world that housed art
which originated in Italy.
This collection of moulds, now numbering more than 1,650, taken directly from
original marble and bronze masterpieces, has been described as "the most
expansive collection of artistic bronze sculpture moulds ever to be assembled."
For more than 120 years, The Chiurazzi Collection of moulds has been used to
replicate Masterpieces by Michelangelo, Bernini, Donatello and others, which can
be found in famous museums worldwide and the private collections of such notable
collectors as the Queen of England, the Rockefeller Family, the Rothschild
Family, and the Vanderbilt Family.
As proscribed by international art protocol, up to nine full-size castings can
be made from a mould taken from the original which in turn are considered to be
a "posthumous first edition original", many of which are valued in the millions
of dollars per piece. In addition to these posthumous originals, there is an
extensive collection of masterpiece reductions from the Chiurazzi School, which
are cast in limited editions of 299.
