Rise in Digital, Social and Standards for 2013 Bronze Quill Awards

("IABC/BC") noticed a higher focus on digital and social media for business communications projects and higher overall standard of entries from this year's , IABC/BC's recognition .
This percentage of winners increased nearly 10 per cent this year with the overall percentage of winners out of total entries rising from 48 per cent in 2012 to 56 per cent.
"Each entry is measured against a standard, not against the others, so that we uphold the same standard in the program from year to year," says Nancy Painter, vice president of the IABC/BC Professional Standards portfolio which oversees the program.
Looking at the project titles of the winning entries for 2013, there is significant increase in projects with some digital element. Last year just one award was given in the category of Social Media.
Nancy Painter notes that, "digital has become an important component of communications strategy."
Winners of 2013 Bronze Quill Awards describe it as a meaningful professional development experience, a validating experience amongst peers, and the opportunity to provide a legacy for other professionals to refer to in future.
Adam Brayford, winner of an Excellence Award in Communication Management - Employee/Members for a project he did as a volunteer for the Canadian Association for Co-operative Education says: "By incorporating the rigorous Bronze Quill standards of research and measurement into the design of my communication campaigns, the quality of my work was elevated."
The Bronze Quill program is open to every , both IABC members and non-members. Entries come from professionals who work with all kinds of organizations.
"It's one thing to be recognized internationally by strangers, but it means so much more to be recognized locally," says Tiffany Atkins and Denise Leech, who won two Awards of Excellence for joint-submissions in Communication Skills - Electronic and Digital Communication and Communication Management - Social Media.
Nancy Painter clarifies that, "these are - each winning entry had to prove how it had provided a measurable business benefit to the client or company. For IABC, a successful communication program must include measurable business results."
Bronze Quill Awards were presented at a Gala event held at Renaissance Vancouver Harbourside Hotel Wednesday 12 June 2013. Submissions are called for annually. For more information on Bronze Quill Awards:
