Juan (John) Gutiérrez has 35+ years of diversified private industry and governmental experience in geology, mining, construction and environmental services related to the mining industry. As a young man he worked as a miner in both open pit and underground mines, moving up to geologist and mining engineering duties. In addition to private industry experience, Juan's work includes 27 years of governmental service working as a geologist, mining and environmental engineer.
Attached to the U.S. Embassy in Venezuela, Juan served as the small mining sector on-the-ground advisor to the Venezuelan government (Pre-Chavez) in the Guayana Region of the country. Due to the high profile nature of the position and remote interior jungle location, Juan carried diplomatic status and regularly briefed then-Ambassador Jeffery Davidow on interactions with miners and Venezuelan Ministry officials.
