PTA Recognizes Leaders in Family and Male Engagement

(firmenpresse) - CINCINNATI, OH -- (Marketwired) -- 06/22/13 -- National PTA today announced the recipients of several of its awards programs during its annual convention. Winners of the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Family-School Partnership Awards, Jan Harp Domene Diversity Inclusion Awards and Male Participation Awards were announced during a luncheon at this year's annual PTA Convention in Cincinnati, OH.

The Phoebe Apperson Hearst Award for innovation in family engagement, named after co-founder Phoebe Apperson Hearst, recognizes and celebrates achievement in building effective family-school partnerships. Each year, National PTA selects one local PTA to receive an Outstanding Family-School Partnership Award and four local PTAs to receive an Award of Merit. The awards recognize PTAs that have effectively implemented National PTA's National Standards for Family-School Partnerships.

The Jan Harp Domene Diversity and Inclusion Award celebrates and recognizes a state PTA and a region, district, council, or local PTA doing remarkable work in the areas of diversity and inclusion. The recognition of diversity is valuing differences and similarities in people through actions and accountability. PTA values and appreciates diversity because it enriches and strengthens our society. Jan Harp Domene served as National President from 2007 to 2009 and was committed to reaching out to families with many diverse backgrounds.

Fathers and male mentors engaging in schools and communities help nurture children's intellectual, physical and social development. The luncheon took place during PTA's Annual National Convention and Exhibition. In its 117th year, the convention will convene more than 1,000 attendees -- representing every U.S. state PTA congress in order to learn, network and become re-energized as volunteer advocates for all children.
