Friends of the Calgary Food Bank Gearing up for Stampede Campaign

The 101st Calgary Stampede has adopted the slogan "Hell or High Water" and it is in this spirit that the Calgary law firm of Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP (BD & P) have decided to continue their annual Put the Boots to Hunger fundraising campaign in support of the Calgary Food Bank.
"The recent & devastating floods have affected so many in our communities." Gary Bugeaud, Managing Partner, BD & P explains, "We know that we must continue our support. The Put the Boots to Hunger campaign helps gather and distribute quality emergency food and this will ensure that the Calgary Food Bank can continue to support the needs of Calgarians and Southern Albertans, especially in this time of crisis."
Held each year during the Calgary Stampede, Put the Boots to Hunger is a philanthropic approach to the usual parties. Donations pour in from the public and private Stampede breakfasts, BBQs and other corporate events leading up to and during the 10 days. In 2012, more than 52,000 lbs of food and $500,000 in funds were raised. This is in addition to the Rangeland Derby Canvas Auction where BD & P purchased the tarp of Chuckwagon driver Jordie Fike, donated it to the Food Bank, who then sold off the tarp space to various companies each night of the races.

Jordie is a fourth generation wagon driver. He is one of only five drivers in history to qualify for the Calgary Stampede in his rookie year. In the off season he coaches midget hockey.
