(firmenpresse) - TORONTO, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 07/15/13 -- The Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) extends congratulations to the newly appointed federal cabinet ministers, and federal ministers remaining in their posts.

"The PDAC is excited to continue its work with federal ministers and the federal government to support Canada's global leadership in exploration and mining, as well as establish new, collaborative relationships," said Ross Gallinger, Executive Director, PDAC. "The new cabinet signals the Prime Minister's continued support for the exploration and mining industry. It also opens doors for new work by the industry to create jobs and economic development for the prosperity of Canadians."

Exploration and mining is an important driver of economic activity in Canada. Overall the industry employs 320,000 Canadians in mineral extraction, processing and manufacturing. It generates thousands of high-skilled, high-paying jobs across Canada and contributes more than $35 billion to GDP.

The PDAC is a strong national advocate for Canadian exploration and development issues. The PDAC has established various initiatives in collaboration with the federal government, and its desire to foster stronger ties with stakeholders. The latest example is a made-in-Canada solution for transparency.

The Resource Revenue Transparency Working Group, which includes PDAC, the Mining Association of Canada (MAC), Publish What You Pay-Canada (PWYP) and the Revenue Watch Institute (RWI), developed recommendations for a made-in-Canada solution for revenue transparency in the exploration and mining industry. The Prime Minister announced his government's commitment to establishing greater transparency during the 2013 G8 summit.
