'Power Play' - USU 2012 annual report wins platinum award again

'Simply different' - for years now, the concept, content and design of
USU's annual report have intertwined to create an overall work that is as
entertaining as it is informative. In this year's contest among the world's
best annual reports, USU's again clinched the top accolade: The League of
American Communications Professionals (LACP), headquartered in San
Diego/California, bestowed its platinum award on USU's 2012 annual report
in the 'Software' category. More than 6,000 entries from 24 countries were
submitted to the LACP and assessed on the basis of various criteria. USU
came 66th in the overall rankings of all reports submitted from different
sectors. LACP also bestowed a silver award on the company's financial
report.
The jury, comprising international communications experts, awarded 99 out
of a possible 100 points for the USU annual report. As a result, USU took
first spot in the 'Software' category. USU was given the maximum score of
10 points for the report's narrative, as well as for the cover, creativity,
message clarity, financials and information accessibility.
'Power Play' is the title and concept of USU's report, underscoring the
profitability and dynamism with which the company has been operating on the
market for many years. Due to USU's successes in internationalizing the
group, a bilingual annual report was published for the first time, i.e. in
German and English alongside each other. The familiar symbols of 'Power'
and 'Play' were combined to produce an expressive logo for the cover page's
design. The interplay between the analog and digital world is symbolized by
further graphical finesses, such as the hint of a tablet PC with the
typical swype technique, as well as QR codes and apps that take up and
reinforce the content of the page in question.
'The USU Group's annual report is much more than just a document we are
simply required to prepare, so we're delighted at this international
award,' says Bernhard Oberschmidt, Chief Executive Officer of USU Software
AG, about the fine result.
It is also a tribute to the outstanding work of the experts involved: The
Reutlingen-based journalist Raimund Vollmer provided the ideas and shaped
the high informational value of the annual report with his concise, yet
entertaining style. The Freework Grafik-Design agency from Asperg was
responsible for the expressive typography and creative design, while the
refined printing work was carried out by Druck- und Medienzentrum Gerlingen
GmbH.
