Laporte Animal Clinic to Host Rabies Vaccine Day
(firmenpresse) - FORT COLLINS, CO -- (Marketwired) -- 07/18/13 -- Due to the recent spike in animals infected with the rabies virus in the Northern Colorado region, Laporte & Supply will be hosting a rabies vaccination clinic on Saturday, July 27, 2013 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at their Laporte office.
Laporte is a unique, mixed-animal clinic offering compassionate, thorough care for all pets, including dogs, cats, exotics and . The rabies vaccination clinic will be available for dogs, cats and ferrets. Cost is $20 per animal and an alternative Purevax one-year, non-adjuvented Rabies vaccine is also available.
This event is open to the public and no appointments are needed. However, no other vaccines or services will be offered during the two-hour clinic.
Since January 2013, the Larimer County Department of Health and Environment has released numerous statements about rabid animals in the area. In Larimer County, 36 animals have been reported with the rabies virus this year, which resulted in seven people, including several children, to receive the rabies prophylaxis treatment.
Pet owners are strongly encouraged to keep their animals up-to-date with rabies vaccination. All types of animals can be affected and any sort of bite or scratch will spread the disease. While bats have been the most common carriers of rabies in Northern Colorado, foxes and raccoons can also spread it, and skunks top this year's list of hazardous animals.
"The rabies vaccine we use is one of the safest and least reactive on the market," Dr. Marta Dean of Laporte Animal said. "It is very important to keep your animals current on rabies vaccine, as the disease is deadly not only to your pet, but to humans as well."
Laporte Animal Clinic cautions everyone to stay away from sick or unusual-acting animals. These animals should be reported to the Larimer County Humane Society animal control at 970-226-3647.
